Yep. It’s rainy season. It has rained for most of the morning and afternoon, so I have spent a lot of time reading books and doing some local research on Guatemala. The clouds did manage to part for awhile in the afternoon and I managed to get out and walk the streets a bit with my camera. Antigua was destroyed by earthquakes in the 1600s and 1700s, reducing much of the town, including many huge churches, to ruin. I photographed the ruins of one ruined convent, especially the remains of a beautiful fountain, complete with sculptures of cherubic angels. I went to the Arch of Catalina and photographed the an arch spanning a public street, which nuns used as a shortcut to travel from convent to convent. I also sat and waited for people to walk past colorful, fading walls. I like Antigua. It has a nice feel.
