I may not be able to get into the Trinity River before the ice thaws, but here is an image from a snowstorm a couple of years ago of ducks on a pond out at the Trinity River Audubon Center here in Dallas.  I like the muted, painterly quality of it .  I try to avoid overlapping subjects, so I am glad each duck had some separation from the others when the one duck flapped.

Ducks in snowCanon 1Ds Mark III.  200mm.  ISO 800.  f/10 @ 1/250 sec.  +1 EV.  On snowy scenes like this, you almost always have to overexpose at least one stop from the meter reading, otherwise the camera will want to make everything gray.
