The Trinity River needs to flood.  That is what charges up all the little surrounding ponds that support so much life. And too many of them remain dry. One of my favorite ponds, the “Secret Bird Pond”, is currently bone dry, but when it is full, it teams with all kinds of animals.

A few year ago, Dallas had really heavy rains and the river was about to flood. I got out to the Secret Bird Pond just as all kinds of little things like this little crayfish were heading to high ground.  He gave me his little defensive posture, which I greatly appreciated.  I photographed him with my widest angle lens to show a little bit of where he lives.
