I have been away the last couple of weeks shooting on the tallgrass prairies of Kansas and Oklahoma for a museum project, and then last week at Vermejo Park Ranch in New Mexico for a photo workshop.

While at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Oklahoma last week, I came across a field of fireflies, dancing in the fading light. Like many in the prairie states, I used to see these displays all the time, but now they are all too rare.

Fireflies are nature’s own fireworks. On this July 4, I thought it might be appropriate.
