Sean Fitzgerald Photography (workshops, events, speaking)
An event every year that begins at 12:00am on the first Monday of September, repeating until September 29, 2018
Vermejo in the fall is famous for the incredible show of elk during their rut and large groves of aspen trees putting on their autumn display.
Join us in September to photograph the elk and aspens, along with everything else Vermejo has to offer! This tour is especially unique, though, as we pair up two photographers with one of the Vermejo’s world class wildlife guides to help them get great opportunities to photograph bull elk as they bugle, display and fight each other. This is a rare and unique opportunity, done expertly and responsibly.
We are also staying in the newly refurbished, historic and spectacular Casa Grande lodge! This is an astoundingly beautiful building listed in many places as one of America’s most unique places to stay. Casa Grande is the home of Vermejo owner Ted Turner (and we are getting an amazing rate for this workshop).
Cost is $3500. Program rates include lodging , meals, professional guides and on-site transportation. Company Store purchases, alcoholic beverages, staff gratuity and New Mexico State sales tax are not included. More information on Vermejo Workshops and FAQ here.
We will adjust our itinerary depending on the weather and those serendipitous opportunities that will likely present themselves. But this gives you an idea of what to expect.
Arrive at Vermejo at noon and get checked into your room.
After everyone arrives, we will likely head out for a game drive to see if we can catch a glimpse of Vermejo’s closest elk and mule deer herds, bison.
You literally never know what you will see. Last year we had a mule deer dow with triplets who would push her little fawns right up to the lodge.
We will get back for dinner at the lodge and a good night’s sleep!
We keep the itinerary open on this workshop to work with the fall weather, and with the desires of the photographers. Want to photograph elk every day? You can do that. Want to just photograph landscapes or aspens or some other location or subject you want to focus on? You can do that too. With just two photographers paired to a guide, you can almost certainly customize this workshop to your heart’s content. I will be there to help and teach, either in person or back at the lodge at mid-day or in the evenings.
I will also be available during our down times to work with each participant on their images, to review their portfolios, to help them with digital workflow and processing issues, or to help them with their photo techniques.
You can sleep in before we meet for a late breakfast or go out for a quick game drive near the lodge. After breakfast and a final wrap up, we will depart.
