Here is an image I shot down in the Great Trinity Forest near I-45 just south of downtown Dallas of a hackberry emperor butterfly in pink evening primrose. I tried to get just the eyeballs and wings sharp a and let the rest fade to softness. The light was soft and fading, and things were a bit windy, making it tough to get a good shot.
I am going to start adding some of the technical data to the POTD images, for those who care. . . . I photographed the butterfly with a 180mm macro with a 2x teleconverter to help get me closer and to help keep that background nice and soft. Canon 1DX camera , ISO 1600. F/9. 1/60 second. Off camera fill flash (-1).
