I love things with character.  Things that have endured, been repaired, spliced, prettied up, and beaten back down again.  Like this fire hydrant in Kinvarra, County Galway, Ireland.

I got a bit lucky here, too.  It was raining when I shot it, so the gray sidewalk got nice and dark, helping provide a nice dark vignette against the brightness of the hydrant.
