Whooping Cranes are flat out awesome creatures. They would not survive without Aransas Wildlife Refuge and the surrounding areas on the Texas coast, and there is no better place to view them.
Here is an image of two young whoopers in a little competition (probably sibling rivalry) just outside the refuge, at a place called the Crane House. It was a dark and dreary day, but the action was great. I love how the one deer is turned watching – that cracks me up.
