In the middle of the hot Texas summer, wood storks stop in the Great Trinity Forest in the shadows of downtown Dallas to spend a month or so feeding in the little ponds near the Trinity River.  Few  Dallasites even know they are there.

Here is a full portrait from one I managed to sneak up to while shooting from a  floating blind (i.e. a fly fishing blind I have modified for photography).  As he was wading through shallow waters looking for food, he wandered near me and gave me his best side.
