Not much is left of the North Texas Blackland Prairie, but there is a really neat restored patch at White Rock Lake in Dallas. Other areas at the lake are thick with a wide variety of Texas wildflowers.
I was out there last spring when a red-winged blackbird landed in the flowers and took a quick look at me. I was shooting with my 70-200, and I put on my 2x teleconverter to get me to 400mm to magnify him a bit and help blur out the wildflowers.I forgot I had this pic, but I kind of like it.
