Here is another short video/gif of monarchs flying past me as I pointed the camera up into the blue sky. I think I got lucky, because they were particularly active on this day and flying past in waves. I was standing near a lady who was cursing with frustration as she tried to track monarchs in flight with the autofocus on her camera. As you can see from this video, that is just about impossible. I wished her luck and told her she was better off picking a manual focal distance, clicking away, and hoping the photo gods bless her with an image she likes.
