I love it when I get a chance to photograph an animal in a way that shows off its natural camouflage. I got that chance recently at Vermejo Park Ranch in New Mexico with a bobcat.
Bobcats are funny. They are naturally curious and will often just sit still and stare at you. When they move, they will often slink away to another spot, then sit still again and stare at you some more. I guess they are secure that their natural camouflage is effective.
This bobcat did just that, looking at us from one location, then moving slowly up a cliff face to a set of rocks that . He sat still for a minute, taking in the show below of frantic photographers trying to find him and get him in focus in the fading evening light.
